An early lecture given my the late great Richard Feynman on entropy. In this lecture he explores the logical problem of the universe being the product of a statistical accident or entropic fluctuation. This lecture is cited in Chapter 11 of my book The Wormwood deceptions.

It was this logical problem that led the famous physicist Richard Feynman to conclude that the order of the universe could not be the result of an entropic fluctuation, as the statistical mechanics of the Second Law of Thermodynamics might suggest given a vast amount of time.

See Richard Feynman’s first lecture on entropy, Cornell University 1964. The topic of entropy fluctuation is mentioned at 17 minutes into this video and this idea is also explored in another more modern thought experiment called a Boltzmann’s brain.

In 2014 the BBC aired a series presented by the physicist Brian Cox. In Episode 2 he demonstrates how multiverses can be used to explain away cosmic fine tuning. This TV episode is cited in Chapter 11 of my book The Wormwood deceptions.

Presented by Professor Brian Cox, Episode 2. The comparison of multiverses and national lottery tickets to explain our universe’s fine tuning is discussed 35 minutes into the video.

Sadly this video is not longer available on Youtube. However, you can see the relevant part of it my third talk on God and Science 18 minutes into the video below.

The video presented on this page shows just how strange modern physics can become when one is desperate to throw out any concept that the universe may in fact be the product of another intelligent agent. This Youtube video is cited in Chapter 11 of my book The Wormwood deceptions.

A strong argument can be made that atheism is leading to a form of scientism that is damaging modern physics. For example, in a recent series of shows entitled “Emergence Theory”, the creators of the series argue, based on applying mathematical infinities directly to the observable universe, that the ultimate destination of cosmic evolution is not heat death as was traditionally predicted by the second law of thermodynamics but rather some weird universal consciousness.
