Now this song fits the psychedelic sci-fi pop genre perfectly. A complete classic from the rather “out there” band the B52s. This is their third appearance in Covid Island Discs. Enjoy Kate’s continuous singing of a single note being electronically mixed with her synthesizer. Very cool.

Day 402: Time after Time, Cyndi Lauper

So this is the second song from Cyndi Lauper to be cited on Covid Island Discs. This song brings back lots of memories of being a young teenager in year 11 high school. Cyndi Lauper’s album “She’s so unusual” really dominated the Australian airwaves and this was probably the main hit from the album along with the other main hit from the album being Girls just want to have fun

Day 401: (Anzac Day): Give peace a chance, John Lennon

So this is the second year that I have cited a song on Australian Anzac day. Anzac day is when Australians commemorate all those Aussies who have tragically lost their lives in armed conflict from the tragic souls who were gunned down by the Turks on Anzac cove to the many Aussies who suffered in were killed or suffered horrific injuries; both psychological and physical in the Vietnam war. If only we could really give peace a chance at those times when nations drift inexorably toward war.

Day 400: Waterloo Sunset, The Kinks

Well we have hit day 400 of Covid Island Discs. Given this is something that is all part of living in Britian I thought I would share a very pretty song from British band the Kinks about an inner city London sunset. Of course in order to experience a Waterloo sunset from the comfort of your home you would need to now be either very rich or paying a large chunk of your salary in rent.
