This song is for all those Oak hall ski companions and the wonderful memories of fantastic ski holidays in Switzerland. One year we performed this song to these changed lyrics.

Danny boy was a reference to Naomi’s brother Daniel who I think had either never skied before or had skied once before this trip. Anyway, he had absolutely no fear so pretty much went from the top to the bottom of the slope with skis parallel and pretty much no turns – fast and furious one might say.

The original song was performed by Lee Dorsey and was a number one in the 1966 singles charts – the year I was born. 2023 Edit: unfortunately the original video I posted back in 202 has been taken down by Youtube so now I can only find an album version of the song sadly.

OK this is not normally within my musical taste but alas it is a clip that my autistic daughter often listens to. In a strange way I find this song interesting although I probably wouldn’t invest in buying an album. I do like the unusual quality of this woman’s voice and the tune is also interesting. It fits nicely into the current theme of unusual songs and replaces a song by Split Enz which has been repurposed for day 183 and which was probably unfairly placed into this theme. The video? Hmm, pretty bizarre although nice to be reminded of my home Australia.

Today is Australia’s Remembrance Day (the equivalent of our 11th of November) for the many brave Australians lost in war. This song tells the tragic story of an Australian Anzac who lost both legs in Gallipoli and considers the pointlessness of human warfare. Lest we forget.
