This song captures an unusual theme. It is written from the perspective of a sexual pervert who listens “through these walls” at couples making love and sees through the windows at the girls and boys imagining the noise.

As the song progresses Phil sings

Oh I’m feeling like I’m locked in a cage
No way in, no way out, and it gets so lonely
Am I really asking a lot
Just to reach out and touch somebody
‘Cause when I look through my windows or open my door
I can feel it all around me

In an odd way the song captures the broken humanity of the pervert who is simply incredibly relationally disabled and just wants to end his loneliness.

Day 312: Jesus he knows me, Genesis

A very dark song by Genesis taking a very appropriate dig at the false prophets of Christianity that use the things of Jesus to make a shed load of money by conning the gullible out of their hard earned cash. I have always surmised that these religious charlatans must truly be atheists. The reason I think this is simply because if they really did have any concept that the underlying gospel, on which they have built their lies, was actually true they surely would worry about a future date when they must stand before Jesus and explain why they used his atoning work for humanity to rob people through their religious scams.

Another great concert I was able to see back in the 80s. I remember Phil Collins opening his concert with synchro drumming (Phil Collins is a very accomplished drummer so he was on stage with another drummer). They then went into this song.
