Day 453: Babaji, Supertramp
A final song from Supertramp as Covid Island Discs draws to a close. Another intense song from a band that for me is like an old friend – their music brings me much joy and comfort.

Time to end the week with this classic from Fleetwood Mac. This song of course is one of their classics from their most famous album rumours. It is kind of an oddly appropriate title given the personal shenanigans that were going on in the band when this album was recorded. Below is a little snippet …
Well this song really should have been cited all the way back in week 5 of Covid Island Discs when the theme was crazy tunes, although that theme was tunes of the 1980s and this song came out all the way back in 1977. I am sure it will bring back lots of memories for …

I really like Jackson Browne’s song “Stay” with the female vocalist doing one verse and then Jackson Browne doing the next voice in falsetto. In this live version, “Stay” is preceded by another song called “The load Out” however, in this performance, the two songs are knitted together in a medley. Enjoy!
I am always surprised that even after a full year citing songs for Covid Island Discs I suddenly discover absolute classic rock tunes which I have yet to cite. The band Foreigner certainly deserves its place in Covid Island Discs and have produced some really great hits over the years. This one is probably their …
This is such an utterly bizarre video in my opinion and well worth watching if you’ve never seen it. Who would have guessed that two very accomplished and famous musicians from opposite ends of the musical spectrum and from different generations would one day come together to produce this Christmas song. Like Bowie’s reference to …

This song makes me feel a little melancholy. One of my earliest trips to the UK was 1976 when my cousin Michael took me as a child to the Hard Rock café in London. My cousin was a full sixteen years older than me and an incredibly nice guy who had a real way with …
Another song by a band that is often considered by many as a band for the teeny boppers of the the 70s. Yet Abba wrote some very interesting songs with very interesting lyrics and here is another song from their collection which is possibly exploring in music the increasing tensions that were developing between Frida, …
A great song by Carly Simon and interestingly she must have performed it at the same venue as the first song of hers I shared all the way back in week 8, day 54. Would love to have been on one of those boats in that Marina.
“A bottle of red, a bottle of white, all depends upon your appetite”. As I have said in other posts I like to listen to the lyrics of a song. This three part song by Billy Joel tell the story of Brenda and Eddie as he imagines telling their story to a long-lost friend in …
