Countdown to the year anniversary of Covid Island Discs T -7 Well we’ve made it to week 52 of Covid Island discs and coming up to the anniversary of when the UK first went into lockdown. I have decided that the songs of the final seven days of Covid Island Discs will consist of the […]

Wow we begin week 52 of Covid Island Discs. We have nearly made it through a whole year of UK lockdown which is a sobering thought. In some ways it seems like only yesterday that Johnson announced the first lockdown all the back in March 2020 but in other ways it seems like half a

I think it is time for another Dido song. This one has Dido’s signature laid back percussion feel to it. The perfect song to unwind to after a hard day at work. The video to this song is also pretty clever.

Time for a soppy love song. This song is pretty and dominated the airwaves when it was first released in 1976. It reminds me very much of the Max Merritt classic Slipping Away which I have already cited on Covid Island Discs. For a long time I could not find a high quality version of

Wow I am surprised I have got to day 352 before I finally cited this song. As I have written on several occasions I love songs that are musically intense and this one is right up there. A classic Police song. Sting of course at one point was a school teacher so I sometimes wonder

OK kicking off week 51 I think it is time for another George Harrison song. This song is quite touching as George looks back on the Beatle years and sings about his love for John Lennon who he “always looked up to.” Sadly, like John, he is no longer with us. >

OK we shall finish the week off with a song from the band Crowded House. Now this song was only published last month so for once I am citing song which are up to date rather than my usual living in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Poor old Neil Finn is looking a lot older
